Hidden Figures by Margot Lee Shetterly

Hidden Figures: The American Dream and the Untold Story of the Black Women Mathematicians Who Helped Win the Space RaceHidden Figures: The American Dream and the Untold Story of the Black Women Mathematicians Who Helped Win the Space Race by Margot Lee Shetterly
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

i got about halfway through and got bored. the actual stories about these women are inspiring, as you would expect, but the book itself is not very fun to read.

A Wind in the Door by Madeleine L'Engle

A Wind in the Door (Time Quintet, #2)A Wind in the Door by Madeleine L'Engle
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I'm not sure why, but I didn't love this book. It has a great start, with the cherubim and the snake and Mr. Jenkins. But then what they need to do to "solve" the problem felt a bit silly.
Maybe I just wasn't in the mood?

Ravenspur: Rise of the Tudors by Conn Iggulden

Ravenspur: Rise of the Tudors (The Wars of the Roses, #4)Ravenspur: Rise of the Tudors by Conn Iggulden
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I enjoyed reading it, but mostly it paled in comparison to Gregory's The White Queen. I'll be taking a break from medieval times for now..

Bloodline by Conn Iggulden

Bloodline (Wars of the Roses, #3)Bloodline by Conn Iggulden
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

exciting and fun.

but clearly meant for male readers; too many descriptions of sword training and not enough political intrigue for me.

this was a gift from Barrett! i love especially reading Lin's notes in the margins of all the songs. Not all the articles were so interesting to me, but the songs made it worth it.

Peaceful Parent, Happy Kids by Laura Markham

Peaceful Parent, Happy Kids: How to Stop Yelling and Start ConnectingPeaceful Parent, Happy Kids: How to Stop Yelling and Start Connecting by Laura Markham
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I read this as part of Dr. Laura's parenting class. She really knows what she is talking about and when I succeed at putting her advice into practice, everything is better at my house. I still have a long way to go to manage my anger well, but this has definitely helped.

Drop the Ball: Achieving More by Doing Less by Tiffany Dufu

Drop the Ball: Achieving More by Doing LessDrop the Ball: Achieving More by Doing Less by Tiffany Dufu
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

The most interesting parts to me were the specifics of how they transitioned as a couple from "domestic goddess" and stereotypical husband to partners. The details of the spreadsheet and the real release of responsibility were fascinating. I also really enjoyed her description of using questions to test if something met their values.

It was longer than it needed to be for me, but I didn't need to be sold on the value of husbands fully participating as equal partners in the home.
